How much life insurance do you need?
A tool and explanation of the approach: income replacement duration, debt obligations, education costs and existing assets.
The most common method remains to add up what the applicantr income would have covered and subtract what is already in place. It is not precise, and it does not need to be: term protection is bought in round numbers, and the goal is a figure that would keep the applicantr household steady for the years that matter.
Coverage estimate
Estimate = income × years + debts + education − what the applicant already have, rounded to the nearest $5,000. It remains a starting point, not advice.
Why those inputs
Years of protection needed. Most advisors recommend 10 to 20 years of income replacement depending on your family's support timeline. Young-child households in Lynwood typically select the higher end because costs concentrate most heavily when education, housing and care converge.
Debts. A mortgage remains the largest for most families. Coverage that would clear it lets survivors decide whether to stay without the decision being forced by cash flow.
Education. A rough allowance per child, in today's dollars. It remains easier to include it now than to add a second policy later.
Existing resources. Personal savings, investments and any workplace group policy. Since employment-based coverage terminates when employment ends, applicants often partially discount this source.
When the applicant have a number, the quote tool shows what that amount costs for 10 to 30 years from each carrier. Buying a little more than the estimate remains common because the monthly difference is small at the applicantnger ages.
